Cool Hand Frustration

At work because air conditioning doesn’t exist in a farm house built in the 1970’s. The wind circulates through the house but the problem I find is that I’m renting out the attic turned bedroom. So the heat naturally rests in this factory of humidity.

Last night was restless. I felt like my whole existence was in the movie ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’. The way Elizabeth Taylor wore her slip and complained of being so hot as to resolve the next oncoming monologue. I didn’t like Paul Newman’s character in the film. He was too whiny. I understood it but it wasn’t a Paul Newmanish role. I preferred the Cool Hand Luke take.

It’s been so long since I’ve seen that movie. As a young kid, it shaped my world in a bit in the 80’s watching this old film figuring out how the world worked when my parents were young. The swinging of blades and the shoveling of asphalt dirt to cover over a dirt road that no one ever drove on in the country.

One scene where they’re all staring at the woman on the car was odd to me as a kid. I didn’t understand what was going on. It was too sexual for me because I didn’t understand it but I figured out the role of grabbing attention and when Luke would say, “Oh, she knows EXACTLY what she is doing” shaking his head in irritation.

But it was the joy of life taken away due to being in prison. In some weird way. As a kid, I understood it. Something was lost. I still couldn’t figure out why Luke was in jail. He was drinking and taking off parking meters but what did he really do to get in…

Wriggling around just so that you won’t forget. There’s certainly some venom in the looks that you collect.
